Plain Cake




1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 egg yolks
2 1/2 cups flour
4 level tea spoon baking powder
1 cup milk

Cream the butter

then add gradually the sugar

then add egg yolks & 1/2 the milk.

Sift flour and baking powder together &

add 1/2 of it to mixture & beat it good for five minutes

then add other half of milk & flour & beat another five minutes.

Beat the whites stiff and add last.

Bake in layers.


Aunt Pit often assumes that any idiot knows what to do with the cake ingredients. For those of us who don't:
Gather ingredients
Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease cake pan.
Mix wet ingredients in a bowl.
Mix dry ingredients in another bowl.
Combine wet and dry ingredients.
Pour batter into pan/pans.
Bake about 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the cake is dry.
