David Jones was born in Clethenham, England about 1825. His parents were William Jones and Sarah Lancaster. (It is interesting that Rachel's youngest son with the family name Dwinnel was named David Lancaster Dwinnell.) Like John W. Miller, his step-daughter, Victoria Dwinnell's husband, David was a ship's carpenter. He married Rachael Lapointe Dwinnell on June 11, 1852. Their life together and children are described in the section on Isaac and Rachel Dwinnell. He became a widower in 1874 when Rachel died. He married Mary Denver Richey in about 1877. Mary was Napoleon Dwinnell's wife, Gertrude Richie's sister. David and Mary had at least five children. Howard and Sherwood Wellington Jones were born in 1877. Mary Evelyn and Mary Soline were born in 1879. Sarah D. was born in 1882. At the time of the 1881 census, David Jones age 43 from England who was a ship carpenter was living in the Frontenac Ward of Kingston. The household consisted of his 40 year old wife, Mary, 3 year old Howard, and 2 year old Jereline. David's child, Sarah D. Jones, was buried with Rachael Lapointe Dwinnell Jones and the Miller babies in Cataraqui Cemetery. She died on June 15, 1885 at age three of a fever and was buried on June, 15, 1885 from St. Paul's Anglican Church. The Reverend W. B. Carey officiated. David Jones died March 8, 1891 |
