Elijah Pitts

Washington County, Virginia was formed from Fincastle County in 1777. It originally contained Sullivan County, Tennessee.

Elijah Pitts was born about 1785 in Washington County, Virginia. He was the son of Lewis Pitts and Mary Head.

His wife was named Sarah.

Mary Pitts (1825, married Joel Shaffer).

Elijah appeared in the 1815 Directory of Virginia Landowners & Gazeteer.

About 1830 Elijah bought land from William Grant.

At the time of the 1830 census, Elijah was in Washington County, Virginia.

A man and a woman between 40 and 49
a man between 20 and 29
a boy and a girl between 15 and 19
a girl beween 10 and 15
a girl between 5 and 9
a boy under 5
an enslaved woman between 36 and 54

About 1832 and 1835, Elijah sold land to Joseph Rhea.

About 1832 Elijah bought land from his brother Elisha

About 1841 Isaac Fleenor bought land from Elijah.

About 1841 Elijah sold land to Isaac Fleenor.

About 1840 Elijah sold land to John Shaffer, Jr.
