An American Family History

Francois Bertrand

Illinois became a state in 1818. A large influx of American settlers came in the 1810s by the Ohio River.

Francois Bertrand (Frank) was born on June 1, 1833 in Seraing, Liège Province, Belguim. He was a brother to or another close relative of Gille Bertram.

He married Catherine Hocquette in 1855 when he was 22 years old. Their children and life together are described in detail in the section on Francois and Catherine Bertrand.

He probably died in 1878 when he was about 45 years old in Braidwood, Will County, Illinois.
